In the Heart of Sea can’t make waves at the box office

It wasn’t a great weekend at the box office, especially if your names happen to be Ron Howard and Chris Hemsworth. Here’s what went down:

IN THE HEART OF THE SEA

With a budget north of $100 million, In the Heart of the Sea had an absolutely disastrous opening weekend, bringing in just $11 million and landing in second place. Howard, who was one of the most bankable directors of the 80s and 90s has been failing hard over the last few years connecting with audiences. Meanwhile, Hemsworth’s worth as a leading man outside of the Marvel movies is virtually nil, though he has shown a willingness to work as a co-star in other films, so I don’t think he’s terribly worried. Either way, be ready to watch In the Heart of the Sea sink like a stone.

As for the rest of the top five, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 was number with $11.3 million. The Good Dinosaur took third place with $10.5 million. Creed was in fourth with $10.1 million, while Krampus close things out in fifth with $8 million.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) In the Heart of the Sea – $18 million
2) The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 – $12 million
3) The Good Dinosur – $11.5 million
4) Creed – $11 million
5) Krampus – $9 million

And here’s how the weekend turned out:

3) The Good Dinosur – $10.5 million
4) Creed – $10.1 million
