It was another solid weekend for Marvel’s newest hero, while the latest from Adam Sandler took a serious dive. Here’s what went down at the box office:
For the second weekend in a row, Marvel’s Ant-Man topped the box office bringing in a solid $24.77 million to raise its two week total to $107 million. While the film is not doing the numbers of an Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s a smaller film and one that cost less than the others. The film should hit $150 million in North America before its run ends.
Debuting in second place with $24 million is Adam Sandler’s Pixels. That number is far from good (much like the film’s reviews) and is a sure sign that Sandler as live action star is pretty much a done deal for the time being.
As for the rest of the top five, Minions was in third place with $22 million. Following in fourth is Trainwreck with $17.1 million, while Southpaw closes things out in fifth place, debuting with a solid $16.5 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Pixels – $35 million
2) Ant-Man – $25 million
3) Paper Towns – $24 million
4) Minions – $23.5 million
5) Trainwreck – $18 million
