Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck goes up against Marvel’s Ant-Man at the box office this weekend

Will it be a trainwreck at the movies this weekend for the little guy, or will we marvel at his success? Here’s our prediction:

Ant-Man

After some troubled birthing pains, including almost a decade of development and the loss of its first director, Edgar Wright, Marvel’s Ant-Man finally makes its way on to screens this weekend, directed by Peyton Reed and staring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lily. Reviews have been solid, to say the least, comparing the film’s comedy and action to that of Guardians of the Galaxy. Ant-Man is entering into a crowded summer season though, and believe it or not, the film is a little more grounded than other Marvel films, so I don’t think it’s going to be a massive hit, only a minor one. Look for a first place debut with $73 million.

Also opening this weekend is Trainwreck, directed by Judd Apatow and written and staring today’s hottest comic, Amy Schumer. Reviews on this one have been great as well, with kudos going to the film’s hillariously raunchy tone, but up against Ant-Man and Minions, Trainwreck is going to have to rely on adults coming out in full force. With Schumer all over the place, I’m also curious if we’ll see any sort of backlash against her. Look for a third place debut with $25 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Minions has had a great week, and should continue to bring in large amounts of families. Look for it in second place with $57 million. Inside Out will be in fourth place with $13 million, while Jurassic World will close things out in fifth place with $10 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Ant-Man – $73 million
2) Minions – $57 million
3) Trainwreck – $25 million
4) Inside Out – $13 million
5) Jurassic World – $10 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
