That’s right! Today sees the release of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1!
Follow me after the jump, and I’ll tell you why you need to make an afternoon pit stop on your way to the evening’s festivities!
S.H.I.E.L.D. #1

You’ve become a fan of the TV series, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.l.D., haven’t you? This second season has been absolutely outstanding, and you’ve been avidly following Biff Bam Pop’s own Glenn Walker on his next-day re-cap columns. You can find his most recent one, digging deep into the mid-season finale, right here.
Well, Marvel has taken the various successes from that series, mainly the characters and the espionage/political interest angle, and spun it into its very own monthly comic book series written and illustrated by some of the industry’s true gems – fan and critic favourites: Mark Waid and Carols Pacheco.
It’s not often that made-for-television characters make the jump into comic books. Let’s face it: it’s generally television and film that mine comics. But with the monthly S.H.I.E.L.D. series, beloved characters like Agents Melinda May, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons will join their commanding officer, Agent Phil Coulson in high stakes adventures, dangers and explorations across the Marvel universe. As the tag line states: Unlimited budget. Unlimited Imagination. Welcome to Level Eight.
It’ll be fascinating to see how this series will tie in with the Marvel comic book universe; much like the television series does with the Marvel cinematic universe. If it’s half as successful, we readers will be in for a treat indeed!
Make the run to your local comic book shop and have your New Year’s festivities start early with the first issue of one of the most anticipated new comic book series’ in S.H.I.E.L.D. #1!
