Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vs Guardians of the Galaxy – Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions

This weekend, those heroes in a half shell will take on the Star-Lord and his gang of misfits. Which movie will come out on top? Here’s our prediction:

Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_film_July_2014_posterThe Michael Bay produced/Megan Fox staring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been talked about for years and now it’s finally here. The trailers have been so-so (in my mind at least) and I don’t think there’s a ton of genuine hype around the film. There’s nothing entirely unique about the film either – we’ve seen this sort of film before, and the turtles have never really gone away. While there’s definitely a strong fan base for the franchise, I don’t think TMNT is going to be any real sort of blockbuster. Look for a second place showing with $37 million.

That means Guardians of the Galaxy will hold onto the top spot for a second week in a row. If anything, the film’s outstanding first weekend has built even more hype for the movie. It should bring in $45 million, bringing its total to close to $200 million.

Also out this weekend is Into The Storm, the sfx laden storm flick which may find its way into third place with $14 million. Step Up All In, the latest in the dance franchise, will debut in fourth place with $10 million, while Lucy will close things out in fifth with $7 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Guardians of the Galaxy – $45 million
2) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – $37 million
3) Into The Storm – $14 million
4) Step Up All In – $10 million
5) Lucy – $7 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
