It should be an excellent weekend at the box office, as one of the most anticipated new releases of summer climbs into the ring. Will it find its way to the top? Here’s our prediction:
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is the sequel to the excellent 2011 hit film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which made a solid $176 million and helped reboot the entire franchise. Set a few years after a plague killed off a significant amount of the population. Rise…should do extremely well this weekend. Reviews have been solid and anticipation is high, thanks in no small part to the return of Andy Serkis as Caesar. Look for a first place debut with $75 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Transformers: Age of Extinction will fall to second place with $20 million. Tammy will grab third place with $10 million, 22 Jump Street will be in fourth with $7 million, with How To Train Your Dragon 2 closing things out in fifth with $6.5 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – $75 million
2) Transformers: Age of Extinction – $20 million
3) Tammy – $10 million
4) 22 Jump Street – $7 million
5) How To Train Your Dragon 2 – $6.5 million
