It’s Thanksgiving weekend for our pals in the U.S., which means big time movie grosses are expected over the next three days. Will a Disney newcomer be able to take down Catching Fire? Here’s our prediction:
Frozen is a computer animated film from Disney staring the of Kristen Bell about a young princess who is travelling to find her sister, the Snow Fairy. The movie is already off to an excellent start, grossing $15 million on Wednesday. While it will definitely find a family audience this weekend, it probably won’t be enough to top the box office. Look for a second place showing with $45 million.
Find out how the rest of the weekend will turn out after the jump!
Also new this weekend is Homefront, featuring an great cast that includes Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder and Kate Bosworth. With a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone, the movie is an adaptation of the book by Chuck Logan about a DEA agent who runs into a meth dealer. This is just the wrong weekend for Homefront – nothing screams family about this one. Look for a fourth place showing with $10 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Catching Fire will have no problem holding onto the top spot this weekend. Look for it to bring in close to $70 million. Thor: The Dark World will hit third place with $13 million, with Delivery Man closing out the top five with $8 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Catching Fire – $70 million
2) Frozen – $45 million
3) Thor: The Dark World – $13 million
4) Homefront – $10 million
5) Delivery Man – $8 million
