Three new movies are looking to draw you in to theatres – but will any of them get your money? Here’s our predictions:
Carrie is a remake of the classic Sissy Spacek/Piper Laurie film, based on Stephen King’s first novel, the story of a girl with some telekinetic and religion issues. In this remake, the talented Chloe Moretz takes on the title character, while the always perfect Julianne Moore is her mother. The selling point here is both the material and the cast, which I think will entice teens and horror fans alike into theatres this weekend, especially with Halloween right around the corner. While many expect Gravity to top the box office for a third weekend in a row, I’m going out on a limb and saying Carrie will claim the top spot with $32 million.
Find out how the rest of the weekend will turn out after the jump!
Escape Plan stars Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger as two convicts that attempt to break out of a prison built by one of them (Stallone). 20 years ago, this would have been a sure-fire hit, but sadly, Arnie and Sly are going to bomb big time this weekend. The truth is, nobody cares about a movie like this. The Expendables works for them, as it’s an ensemble, but this team-up is just too late. Look for a fifth place finish with $8 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Gravity is going to be right behind Carrie with $30 million, Captain Phillips will fall to third place with $20 million, while Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 will be in fourth place with $9 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Carrie – $32 million
2) Gravity – $30 million
3) Captain Phillips – $20 million
4) Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 – $9 million
5) Escape Plan – $8 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
