The Easter weekend prove to be a good one for everyone involved in G.I. Joe: Retaliaton, which, as expected, managed to grab the top spot at the box office. Here’s what went down.
After myriad delays, G.I. Joe: Retaliation hit theatres and scored a solid $41 million, showing that there is defiite interest in the franchise and its star, Dwayne The Rock Johnson. While critics weren’t particularly kind to the film, the sequel/reboot idea proved appealing to audiences. I anticipate the film won’t have huge legs in North America, but overseas grosses will definitely help make this film a big success and pave the way for a potential sequel.
Find out how the rest of the weekend turned out after the jump.
Tyler Perry”s Temptation managed a strong opening as well, grabbing $22 million for third place, even though Madea is nowhere to be found. Perry films typically don’t last long in theatres, but this was definitely a successful weekend for the director.
As for the rest of the top five, The Croods dropped to second place with $26 million, Olympus Has Fallen fell to fourth with $14 million and Oz: The Great And Powerful closed out the top five with $11.6 million. The Host could only muster $11 million for sixth place.

3) Olympus Has Fallen – $20 million
