Hansel and Gretel Shut Down Parker, Move 43 – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

It was a fairly lacklustre weekend at the box office, as two new releases tanked big time and the number one film only did so-so. Here’s what went down:

hanselandgretelwitchhuntersHansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters scored the top spot this weekend, bringing in $19 million. Reviews were unimpressive and I doubt that you’re going to see this one stick around for too long. Amazingly, the film has already made back its $50 million budget thanks to its overseas results.

Find out how the rest of the weekend turned out after the jump!
Jason Statham’s Parker failed to find an audience, bringing in an anemic $7 million to arrive in fifth place. I think it’s clear that Statham really can’t open a film to A-list numbers, as none of his film have really resonated in theatres. Parker will likely find its audience on Blu-ray in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Movie 43 debut outside the top five, hitting number seven with an absolutely dreadful $5 million. Everyone involved should be (and from what I’m hearing, are) absolutely embarrassed by the film and its performance.

As for the rest of the top five, Mama was second with $12.8 million, Silver Linings Playybook was right behind it in third with $10 million, while Zero Dark Thirty claimed fourth with $9.8 million.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters – $18 million
2) Parker – $13 million
3) Mama – $11 million
4) Zero Dark Thirty – $10 million
5) Movie 43 – $9 million
