One of the most anticipated horror films of 2024 has a brand new trailer, and it’ll be your new obsession. Ti West follows up X and Pearl with MaXXXine, an 80’s-set conclusion of his trilogy which seems to be the biggest of them all.
Starring Mia Goth as Maxine Minx, the story follows her as she finally gets her star-making performance in Hollywood in 1985. All of this is set against a mysterious serial murder spree that targets aspiring Hollywood starlets, which may be connected to Maxine’s dark past.
Goth has said that “[MaXXXine is] the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.” Early reactions say that the film is “over the top gory” and “an homage to Dario Argento.” Yes, please!
In X, Goth portrayed one of a group of aspiring porn filmmakers who run afoul of the inhabitants of a rural cabin. Pearl explored the backstory of the cabin’s owner. Both films were released in 2022.
MaXXXine features, alongside Goth, an appropriately star-studded cast including Kevin Bacon, Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Lily Collins, Halsey and Giancarlo Esposito.
Maxxxine comes to theatres on July 5 from Ti West and A24.
