Trailer Time: David Cronenberg’s ‘Crimes of the Future’ Exhibits the Body Horror of the Past

It’s been a little while since we’ve had a new David Cronenberg movie, and the lack of cinematic weirdness may have lulled audiences into a false sense of security. Safety time is over. The teaser trailer for Croney’s new movie Crimes of the Future has been released and you might want to sit down for this one. Starring Viggo Mortensem, Lea Seydoux, and Kristen Stewart draws on sci-fi body horror vibes that Cronenberg hasn’t explored since 1999’s eXistenZ. What is that thing on the table that looks like congealed eyeball salad? What is Kristen Stewart shoving into her face? What is that booming voice giving cryptic commands? Your guess is as good as anyone’s. Cronenberg has said in interviews that he expects some people to vomit, pass out, or leave the auditorium during Crimes of the Future. Judging by this oppressively dark brown trailer, Cronenberg might get his wish.

Crimes of the Future is slated to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022.
