Trailer Time: Marvel’s ‘Ms. Marvel’

In a pretty dramatic tonal shift from their usual content, Disney+ will be featuring Ms. Marvel, Marvel’s first Muslim superhero, in a new six-episode miniseries to premiere on June 8 on the streaming service.

Starring newcomer Iman Vellani in the role of the Captain Marvel fangirl Kamala Khan, who has serious powers of her own, as she faces off against a vigilante known as the Red Dagger (Aramis Knight). The brand new trailer is set against a remixed version of The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ and has a bubbly, distinctive look as it follows Khan through the halls of her high school before she starts laying the heat down with her giant glowing fist.

The Ms. Marvel character was introduced by Marvel Comics in 2013 as a Pakistani-American teenager who wants nothing more than to follow in the footsteps of Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel. Originally slated to premiere in late 2021, Disney bumped the series to this summer which places it closer to the feature premiere of The Marvels next February, where Vellani’s Khan will star alongside Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau.
