The Matrix Resurrections just dropped a brand new trailer that I am not going to watch because it’s too close to the film’s release date, both in theatres and on HBO Max on December 22, 2021. Apparently you might catch glimpses of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II playing a rebooted version of Morpheus, Jonathan Groff as a new version of Agent Smith, and Carrie-Ann Moss and Keanu Reeves reprising their roles as Trinity and Neo, respectively. Co-starring is Christina Ricci, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Jada Pinkett Smith.
It sounds like the trailer is pretty incomprehensible, ping-ponging between the Matrix itself, the bombed-out real world outside of the simulation, as well as peppering in clips from the original three films. It’s unclear how these will all fit together besides a heavy emphasis on the cyclical nature of the story, but we’ll all presumably find out when Lana Wachowski’s opus is unleashed on the world in a few weeks.
The Matrix Resurrections debuts on HBO Max and in theaters on December 22nd.
