Trailer Time: Get Over Here for ‘Mortal Kombat’

Fight fans have been waiting with bated breath for the first trailer for the new, R-rated take on Mortal Kombat, from director Simon McQuoid. Well, wait no more, because the first red-band trailer for the film is now live and ready to unleash all the horrors of the Outworld into your eyes!

The project may not be very heavy on star power, but I’m personally excited to see one of my favourite action stars, Joe Taslim from The Raid and The Night Comes For Us as Sub-Zero. And, let’s face it – you only want three things from a Mortal Kombat film – that iconic song (you know the one), some excessive gore, and characters announcing themselves by name when they walk into a room – and this trailer nails the hat trick, in spades. There’s some delicious violence, including key moments involving Jax, Kano, and a certain four-armed friend.

Mortal Kombat is directed by Simon McQuoid from a screenplay by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham (Godzilla 2014, Wonder Woman 84). It stars Josh Lawson (House of Lies) as Kano, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, and Lewis Tan as Cole Young, a new addition to the MK universe.

The trailer opens on Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) hunting a fugitive before…you know what? Do you even care about any of this? Just watch the dang thing!

Mortal Kombat will be released simultaneously on HBO Max and in theatres on April 21, 2021
