In The Game: ‘Resident Evil Village’ Drops a New Trailer and Release Date

The good folks at Capcom held a live-streamed press event yesterday which was centred around it’s newest installment of Resident Evil, called Village. They revealed that the much-anticipated title will be released on the PlayStation 5, PC, and the Xbox Series X on May 7, 2021. Current-generation console owners will also get some love with a PS4 and Xbox One release at the same time.

In no kind of departure from the rest of the series, Village looks appropriately spooky and seems to take place largely in a labyrinthine castle. Village follows two superb remakes of the first two games in the series, and the critically-acclaimed Resident Evil 7 which released back in 2017. Apparently there’s a live-action series in the works at Netflix too.

Continuing the trend from the last game, Capcom revealed that Village will also be a first-person survival game and will come bundled with Re: Verse, which looks to be a multiplayer mode that features many of your favourite faces from the wide-reaching Resident Evil canon.

For anyone itching to give Village a shot, Capcom revealed a couple of nice surprises for next-gen owners. A line in the press conference revealed that PS4 owners will be eligible to update the game to the PS5 version, and Smart Delivery will be enabled for Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One owners. Finally, a demo for the PS5 should be available right now, which should tide those folks over until May.
