Can double your Will Smith pleasure mean a big debut at the box office? Not likely, if you ask me. Which, if you’re reading this, you probably are.
Gemini Man sees today’s Will Smith vs a young Will Smith in the new sfx-driven film directed by Ang Lee. There’s a lot of hype surrounding the technical aspects of the movie, but reviews have just been horrible for Gemini Man, and I’m not surprised. The idea honestly seems silly to me, and the trailers just never helped. I think we’re going to see this one sink like a stone. Look for a third place debut with $22 million.
Also new this weekend is The Addams Family animated film, which faces the same issue of poor reviews that Gemini Man has to deal with. On the plus side, it’s Halloween season and its been decades since Gomez, Mortician and company were in theaters. This means that The Addams Family is very likely going to shock Gemini Man and debut in front of it with $27 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Joker will have no trouble holding on to the top spot at the box office for a second weekend. Look for it to bring in $45 million. Downton Abbey will be in fourth place with $5.5 million, while Hustlers will close things out in fifth with $5 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Joker – $45 million
2) The Addams Family – $27 million
3) Gemini Man – $22 million
4) Downton Abbey – $5.5 million
5) Hustlers – $5 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
