It was a decent but not spectacular weekend for Abominable, the first family offering at the box office in a while.
Abominable, the Dreamworks film about the Yeti, debut in first place with an estimated $20.8 million. I genuinely thought the movie would find a larger audience, thanks to its strong reviews. It may wind up having legs over the coming weeks; that is if parents aren’t cautious about taking their kids to the movies with Joker arriving.
As for the rest of the top five, Downton Abbey dropped to second place with $14.5 million. Hustlers was in third place with $11 million, followed in fourth place by IT: Chapters Two with 10.4 million. Ad Astra closed things out in fifth place with $10 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Abominable – $24 million
2) Downton Abbey – $18 million
3) Ad Astra – $12 million
4) IT: Chapter Two – $9 million
5) Rambo: Last Blood – $8 million
And here’s how the weekend is estimated to turn out:

2) Downton Abbey – $14.5 million
3) Hustlers – $11 million
4) IT: Chapter Two – $10.4 million
