‘Annabelle Comes Home’ and ‘Yesterday’ Go Up Against ‘Toy Story 4’ and More ‘Avengers’

It’s going to be a bit of an interesting weekend at the box office, even if there are no films entering the arena that will take down Toy Story 4.

Annabelle Comes Home is the biggest debut of the weekend. The sequel to 2017’s Annabelle is also part of The Conjuring universe, and this time out features Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga of that franchise in prime roles. That will certainly help bring audiences into the theatre, as will the fairly positive reviews the movie has already notched up since its release earlier this week. Look for a second place showing for Annabelle Comes Home with $30 million.

Also, new this week is Yesterday from director Danny Boyle and writer Richard Curtis. The story is about an aspiring musician who one day wakes up in a world where he’s the only person who remembers the music of The Beatles. There are no big stars to help get people out, so it’s going to be the story and the Fab Four that will be the appeal. Look for a third-place debut for Yesterday with $11 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Toy Story 4 should have a strong second weekend with $64 million. Disney’s Aladdin will be in fourth place with $9 million, followed in fifth place with $8.5 by the rerelease of Avengers: Endgame, with bonus footage and a preview of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel and Disney aim to break Avatar‘s all-time box office record.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Toy Story 4 – $64 million
2) Annabelle Comes Home – $30 million
3) Yesterday – $11 million
4) Disney’s Aladdin – $9 million
5) Avengers: Endgame – $8.5 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
