It’s an easy number one at the box office this weekend, as the first Pixar franchise arrives in theatres with what will in all likelihood be its final installment.
People love the Toy Story movies, and the fourth film in the series is one of the summer’s most anticipated sequels. Unsurprisingly, reviews for Toy Story 4 have already been glowing, which should help guarantee a huge opening weekend. Toy Story 4 will be box office relief after the lacklustre responses to the various sequels that have clogged up theatres the last few weeks. Look for a first place debut with a massive and record-breaking $175 million.
Also new this weekend is a remake of the classic horror film, Child’s Play. This movie comes with its fair share of controversy, as original creator Don Mancini has no involvement with this new movie, and is, in fact, busy working on a TV series set in the original franchise universe. It’s a little confusing, to be sure, but what’s maybe even more shocking is that reviews have been strong for this new Child’s Play. This film should do well with the horror crowd; look for a second place debut with $20 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Men In Black: International is going to drop hard to third place with $15 million. The Secret Life of Pets 2 will be behind it in fourth with $12 million, while Disney’s Aladdin will close things out in fifth place with $11.5 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Toy Story 4 – $175 million
2) Child’s Play – $20 million
3) Men In Black: International – $15 million
4) The Secret Life of Pets 2 – $12 million
5) Disney’s Aladdin – $11.5 million
