‘Miss Bala’ to Miss the Mark at the Box Office This Weekend

With the Super Bowl happening on Sunday, it’s going to be another quiet weekend at the box office, as there are only two new releases that are hitting theatres, and it’s unlikely that either will make any sort of impact.

Directed by Catherine Hardwicke of Twilight fame, Miss Bala is a poorly reviewed remake of a 2011 Mexican film about a young woman who takes on a Mexican drug cartel. The film is currently sitting at 35% fresh, and with few big names to help bring in audience, don’t expect much for Miss Bala, which will debut in fourth place with $5 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Glass will hold on to the top spot with $10 million as it struggles to cross their $100 million. The Upside will be in second place with $8 million, while the World War I documentary They Shall Not Grow Old will expand into theatres and hit number three with $5.5 million. Finally, The Kid Who Would Be King will closes things out in fifth place with $4 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Glass – $10 million
2) The Upside – $8 million
3) They Shall Not Grow Old – $5.5 million
4) Miss Bala – $5 million
5) The Kid Who Would Be King – $4 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
