‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ heading for a franchise record debut weekend

Can the sixth film in franchise really be considered the best of the bunch? That’s how its sounding with the release of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which hits theaters this weekend.

You’ve probably heard how Tom Cruise did virtually all of his own stunts making this latest of instalment of the billion dollar Mission: Impossible series. You really can’t buy that sort of publicity. But now, with the movie opening today, we also have a critically-acclaimed instalment that makes all the work Cruise put into the film apparently well worth it. This sixth entry also marks the first time a director has returned to the franchise, as Christopher McQuarrie continues the winning work he did on Rogue Nation, back in 2015. All this to say, Mission: Impossible – Fallout should have no trouble hitting the top of the box office this weekend. Look for a first place debut with $65 million.

Also new this weekend is Teen Titans Go To The Movies, the first animated feature for the hilarious television show based on DC’s venerable team of…teen titans. The previews for this one have been very, very funny. Plus, Nicolas Cage finally gets to achieve his dream of playing Superman, even if it’s in animated form. It still counts, it still counts! Look for the Titans to debut in second place with $20 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again will be in third place with $18 million, while The Equalizer 2 will follow right behind it in fourth with $17 million. Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation will close things out in fifth place with $13 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Mission: Impossible – Fallout – $65 million
2) Teen Titans Go To The Movies – $20 million
3) Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again – $18 million
4) The Equalizer 2 – $17 million
5) Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation – $13 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
