From small things, big things should come. At least, that’s how we’re looking this weekend with the debut of the final Marvel Studios release of the year, Ant-Man and The Wasp.
Coming off the amazing critical and commercial response to Avengers: Infinity War ($670 million domestic, $2 billion worldwide), fans are looking for answers to questions, the biggest being where were Ant-Man and The Wasp during Thanos’ decimation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We should get the full story, as Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas are joined by Michelle Pfeiffer and Hannah John-Kamen for the continuing adventures of Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne. A smaller film than recent epic MCU entries, Ant-Man and The Wasp won’t have a record-breaking debut, but it certainly should still find a large audience. Look for a first place showing with $94 million, with the possibility of an even higher number.
As for the rest of the top five, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will fall to second place with $30 million. Incredibles 2 will be right behind it in third place with $26 million. The First Purge, which arrived in theaters this past July 4th, will land in fourth place with $20 million, thanks to its built in audience of horror fans. Finally, Uncle Drew will close out the top five with $7.5 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Ant-Man and The Wasp – $94 million
2) Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – $30 million
3) Incredibles 2 – $26 million
4) The First Purge – $20 million
5) Uncle Drew – $7.5 million
