There’s now way around it – Solo: A Star Wars Story is a bomb.
You may wonder how a film that’s made over $148 million in two weekends could be considered a bomb, but this is the Star Wars franchise we’re talking about; one with a rabid fanbase that will hit theatres multiple times for each and every new release – hell, I saw The Phantom Menace three times in theatres when it came out, and I’m only slightly ashamed of that fact. This weekend, Solo could only muster up $29 million. People simply aren’t interested in the film, and at this point it’s going to struggle to even hit $200 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Deadpool 2 came in second place again with $23 million. Adrift debut in third place with $11.5 million, while Avengers: Infinity War was right behind it in fourth place with $10.2 million. Book Club closed things out in fifth place with $6.8 million.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Solo: A Star Wars Story – $35 million
2) Deadpool 2 – $25 million
3) Avengers: Infinity War – $13 million
4) Adrift – $12.5 million
5) Book Club – $6.5 million
And here’s how the weekend is estimated to turn out:
