‘Solo: A Star Wars Story” set to Debut on top of the Box Office

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new Star Wars movie in theaters this weekend. I’m kidding. I know you’ve heard all about Solo: A Star Wars Story. So, here’s the bigger question – how will this film actually perform this weekend? Here’s our prediction:

It’s been a convoluted story getting Solo: A Star Wars Story on to the big screen. Chris Lord and Phill Miller were fired directors just as the movie was nearly finished shooting; reshoots under the direction of Ron Howard – this is not the stuff of optimism, especially for the vocal and often contrary Star Wars fan base. Plus, did we really need a Han Solo origin story? However, Solo: A Star Wars Story has been getting passable reviews, and its looks as though Howard managed to salvage the movie for the masses. The trailers have been great, with so much buzz directed towards Donald Glover and his performance as Lando Calrissian (he was even made into a Biff Bam Pop Actor Trading Card.) All this to say, Solo: A Star Wars Story should have a solid opening weekend, thanks in no small part to the Memorial Day long weekend and that rabid Star Wars fan base. Our predictions are for the three-day weekend, which should see Solo bring in a solid $115 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Deadpool 2 will drop to second place with $45 million. Avengers: Infinity War will grab third place with $17 million. Book Club will be in fourth place with $9 million, while Show Dogs will close things out in fifth place with $7 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions for the three day weekend:

1) Solo: A Star Wars Story – $115 million
2) Deadpool 2 – $45 million
3) Avengers: Infinity War – $17 million
4) Book Club – $9 million
5) Show Dogs – $7 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
