The Magnificent Seven shooting for the top of the box office

Will a high profile remake of a classic western find favour with an audience this weekend, or will families see what the stork delivers? Here’s our prediction:

The Magnificent Seven is a remake of the classic 1960 western, with an incredible cast that reunites Training Day director Antoine Fuqua with his stars Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. Throw in recently minted mega-star Chris Pratt and you have all the makings of a big hit. Even with some lacklustre reviews, the names attached here are big enough to guarantee a solid opening weekend. Look for The Magnificent Seven to debut in first place with $48 million.

Also opening is the animated film Storks, starring the voice talents of Jennifer Aniston and Andy Samberg. It’s been a few weeks since families have had a film to flock to, which puts Storks in the position of a decent debut weekend. Look for it to fly into second place with $32 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Sully will land in third place with $14 million as it narrows in on the $100 million mark. Bridget Jones’ Baby will be in fourth place with $5 million, while Snowden will close things out in fifth place with $4.5 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) The Magnificent Seven – $48 million
2) Storks – $32 million
3) Sully – $14 million
4) Bridget Jones’ Baby – $5 million
5) Snowden – $4.5 million
