Bourne is back, but will he be able to go beyond the current Star Trek movie in release? Here’s our prediction:
Matt Damon returns to the title character of the latest Jason Bourne film, which brings with it returning director Paul Greengrass, lofty expectations and some lacklustre reviews. Could we be seeing yet another summer sequel that simply won’t cut it with audiences? All signs are pointing to yes. Look for a first place showing with $49 million.
Also opening this weekend is Bad Moms, an ensemble comedy starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Christina Applegate. This is a great cast and the movie has an R-rating, which could bode well, as adults may be looking for a laugh this weekend. Bad Moms should have a lock on third place with $23 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Star Trek Beyond should land in second place with $28 million, thanks to the strong critical reaction and decent word of mouth. The Secret Life of Pets will land in fourth place with $15 million, while Lights Out will close things out in fifth with $11 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Jason Bourne – $49 million
2) Star Trek Beyond – $28 million
3) Bad Moms – $23 millon
4) The Secret Life of Pets – $15 million
5) Lights Out – $11 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
