It’s a good weekend for families looking to hit movie theatres, as a new animated adventure is out and ready for your dollars. How much will this new movie make? Here’s our prediction:
After a year of previews, Illumination’s The Secret Life of Pets has finally hit theatres, and it has a lot going for it. First, it comes from the same studio that’s behind the Despicable Me/Minions franchise, the last film which made $1 billion worldwide last year. The Secret Life of Pets is also coming a few weeks after the release of Finding Dory, which has made all the money and will likely begin its slow but steady decline. All of this points to a strong debut for these Pets, so look for a first place showing with $75 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Finding Dory will fall to second place with $24 million. The Legend of Tarzan will be in third place with $18 million. The Purge: Election Year will be in fourth place with $12 million, while The BFG will close things out in fifth place with $10 million.
