May The 4th Be With You And These 10 STAR WARS #1 Comics On The Wednesday Run

May the 4th.

Star Wars 1 coverIt is a day both long-remembered and one so very eagerly anticipated. Because, you see, (and if you didn’t already know) the date ties in to the global excitement around the Star Wars film franchise and the pun is cleverly derivative of “may the force be with you”.

That pun, according to Wikipedia, goes all the way back to British Parliament days and then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the late 1970’s, while organized Star Wars celebrations around this date began in Toronto (shout out to the 6!) in 2011.

Of course, that too is merely a Wikipedia entry. Sure, Torontonians love their Star Wars, as do fans around the world. But as you know, there’s more to Star Wars than just the films.

There are comic books too.

And today, on what is known as Star Wars Day, May the 4th, Marvel Comics is re-releasing enough of them to satiate an entire clone army!

Follow me after the jump for all the Star Wars comics you could possibly imagine!

Ten Star Wars comic books out today, all of them strategically released on May the 4th – otherwise known as Star Wars Day.

So, where do you start?

In truth, you can start with all of them, or just the ones that tickle your fancy. Each book, published by Marvel Comics, are reprints of first issues – some of them from last year while others are from a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Which is where I’d start. But hey! True Believers: Star Wars Covers #1: This book reprints all of your favourite Star Wars comic book covers and all of their variants. It’s a spectacular sci-fi gallery!

True Believers: Lando #1: By Charles Soule and fan favourite artist Alex Maleev, it’s the first issue of Lando in his own series for the very first time!

Darth Vader 1 coverTrue Believers: Darth Vader #1: By Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca. It’s the reprint of the first issue of the Sith Lord in his only monthly series, bent on destroying the rebellion and cementing his place of one of the galaxy’s all-time great villains!
