Ok, we all know the score. This weekend will see the premiere of one of the most anticipated films of the past decade. But will it be any good? Will audiences turn out? Here’s our prediction:
And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth’s mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat…oh, wait a minute. Wrong franchise. Wrong company. Wrong, wrong, wrong. At least, that’s what it’s looking like when it comes to this weekend’s mammoth Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opening. Three years following the muted response to Man of Steel, the second entry into the DC Comics Cinematic Universe will unfold on screens around North America. And, from a critical standpoint, things don’t look, with the film sitting with a 32% score at Rotten Tomatoes, which is absolutely abysmal. However, audiences don’t necessarily heed the warnings of critics, and in the case of Batman v Superman, pre-sale’s have been through the roof, which means for at least one weekend, the World’s Finest should do fantastic numbers. Look for a first place debut with $175 million.
Also opening this weekend, if anybody cares, is My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, following 14 years after the original became aa surprise box office hit. Much like Batman v Superman, though, the film is suffering from horrible reviews, which will likely lead to a lackluster debut. Look for a third place finish with $15 million.
As for the rest of the top five, Zootopia should be in second place with $30 million, The Divergent Series: Allegiant will be in fourth place with $10 million, while Miracles From Heaven will celebrate Easter weekend in fifth place with $9.5 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – $175 million
2) Zootopia – $30 million
3) My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 – $15 million
4) The Divergent Series: Allegiant – $10 million
5) Miracles From Heaven – $9.5 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
