The early weekend box office numbers are out, and once again the final film in a franchise held onto the top spot. Here’s what went down:
To nobody’s surprise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 was once again the number one film in North America, bringing in an estimated $18.8 million. The film’s three-week total now sits at $227.3 million, an excellent number to say the least.
As for the rest of the top five, it looks as though holiday horror flick Krampus managed to make an impressions, arriving in second place with $15.3 million. However, there’s a tight race for second, third and fourth place, so there’s no guarantee Krampus will be second when Monday hits, especially with The Good Dinosaur right behind it in third with $15.1 million. Creed sits in fourth place with $14.6 million, raising its two-week total to a strong $64 million. The film is on its way to outgrossing Rocky Balboa, guaranteed. Finally, Spectre closed things out in fifth place with $5.6 million.
