Why? Because on May 1st, one of this year’s most eagerly anticipated summer movies drops into our cinema-going laps.

Sometimes films and the comic books they’re based on sync up perfectly. Other times, story elements change. And that’s what’s happened with the origin of Ultron in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. As a sentient robot originally created by Hank Pym (the first Ant-Man – who just so happens to make an appearance, as played by actor Michael Douglas, in the Ant-Man film released later this year) in the new Avengers movie, Ultron’s origins lie on the lab tables of Tony Stark, Iron Man.
I’m sure that change will allow for greater animosity between Stark and his Avenger teammates – specifically Captain America. Those relationship elements will certainly play out over upcoming films. I’m betting that the Avengers get “disassembled” in May’s film.
But I digress.
To remind you about how evil and how powerful a machination Ultron is, Marvel is releasing a number of themed comics this month and next that all tie in, in some way or another, to the characters and plot elements of Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s pretty powerful stuff when the film studio and the comic book publishing think tank operate tightly under the umbrella of the same parent company, isn’t it?
Avengers: Ultron Forever #1 is the first chapter of a three issue series that is meant to remind – or introduce – readers to the character of Ultron. Here, we get the 500-years-in-the-future story of Ultron’s ultimate victory: eradicating the scourge of the human species.
But Doctor Doom has a plan: seven Avengers are brought forward through time to save the future of the earth – and defeat Ultron for the sake of the cosmos! That’s senses-shattering stuff! (Marvel should put those words on the cover of the comic!)
One of the most exciting elements of this series is that renowned (and favourite) artist, Alan Davis, is lending his legendary skill to the art chores. You just don’t get Avengers comics much better than that!
