Spotlight On The Dark Side With Darth Vader #1 On The Wednesday Run

Has there ever been a more nefarious quote from a more nefarious villain?

Like we all knew would happen, 2015 is quickly becoming the year of Star Wars. Disney’s purchase of LucasFilm a few years ago is ramping up events in anticipation of a new film at the end of this year and with Marvel, the “House of Ideas”, under the Mouse’s umbrella, Star Wars is finding itself on comic book store shelves everywhere.

Even with Star Wars being around for nearly four decades (holey moley!), follow me after the jump for a new first for the franchise!

Last month saw the release of Marvel Comics’ new Star Wars #1, a comic book we highlighted in this very column, which you can read up on right here. That particular issue had sales that were far, far away from all others – as, from what I’ve read, nearly one million copies went to press! Nearly one in every seven comic books sold in the month of January was Star Wars #1 – it’s been reprinted three times with a fourth expected shortly.

Now that’s galaxy-spanning success!

Hot on those heels is a Star Wars first: today’s release of Darth Vader #1.

This is the first time that the Dark Lord of the Sith has starred in his own series. It’s a rare thing that a villain leads his own title, but there’s so much interest and storytelling mythos (and mythos yet to be explored) surrounding Darth Vader, that the comic is sure to be a success. This particular story, like the Star Wars comic released last month, takes place directly after the original Star Wars film (Episode IV: A New Hope) – a great time for a new story!

The Rebel Alliance has had its first great victory with the destruction of the Death Star. Now, the Empire continues it’s war, tightening its evil grip on the galaxy – and, for the first time, we readers get to experience the story from the other side of the spectrum!

With Darth Vader #1, written by Kieron Gillen (Journey Into Mystery) and illustrated by Salvador Larroca (Invincible Iron Man), we’ll learn more of the machinations behind the famous mask of evil, as Vader plans against both the Alliance and the one with whom the “force is strong”: Luke Skywalker.

Make the run to your local comic book shop today and become one with the Dark Side. Pick up Darth Vader #1 – the Sith Lord awaits your arrival! Do not disappoint!
