Scene Stealers: The Fearsome Five

Stephen King's It“Swear to me swear to me that if it isn’t dead you’ll all come back.” – Stephen King, It

Halloween is almost here – Hooray! I remember as a kid walking through the video store and as soon as my parents were distracted, I’d head for the horror aisle. I wasn’t allowed to watch them, but just looking at the boxes gave me plenty of nightmares.

Here’s to the horror genre that many of us are supporting this month and to the five scariest “Scene Stealing” stars of them all.

#5 Rabbit from “Twilight Zone: The Movie”

Rabbit Twilight Zone

There were a lot of great scene-stealing roles in the Twilight Zone movie, and if I were choosing it based on dialogue I would have given it to Dan Aykroyd’s character for his famous “Do you want to see something really scary?” scene.  However, it was the horrifying rabbit that gets pulled out of a hat in the “It’s a Good Life” segment whose image will forever remain burned into my memory banks.

#4 Monsters from “Cabin in the Woods”

Monsters Cabin in the Woods

Not only was this a fantastic movie (absolute ‘MUST SEE’ during the Halloween season; available on Netflix), but it also re-introduces us to a plethora of infamous characters / monsters from pretty much every horror movie one could imagine. I honestly couldn’t choose just one so I’m giving the entire ‘bunch’ recognition!

#3 Clown from “Poltergeist”

Clown Poltergeist

As I mentioned in my review of “Poltergeist” earlier in the month (read my review here, part of the “31 Days of Horror” Series on BiffBamPop!), this clown severely traumatized me as a child. I spent the majority of my childhood afterward checking under my bed every night and stuffing my bedspread around my entire body out of fear that the Clown would try to sneak under the covers and grab me.

#2 Annabelle from “The Conjuring”

Annabelle Conjuring

I haven’t seen the spin-off prequel yet based on this character, and word on the street is that “The Conjuring” was a superior film. With that said, I found Annabelle to be terrifying in her movie debut. I can understand how basing an entire movie off the demonic doll could lessen her ‘scare factor’, but in her brief moments in Conjuring, she sent chills down my spine!

#1 Freddy Krueger from “Freddy Vs. Jason”

Freddy Vs. Jason

Okay, so I’m cheating here. Technically, Freddy is the co-star in this movie and he also has several movies previous to this one which he headlined…but he’s Freddy Krueger, man!  Not only is Freddy responsible for more of my nightmares than any other horror film character, when he was asked to share the screen with another horror icon (Jason) he easily stole every scene.  Here’s to Freddy Krueger and a Halloween season full of scares!
