Watch With Amanda: What’s on TV This Week? January 7 – 13

This week: Your favourite shows are set return from their winter breaks along with many season premieres including Girls, Shameless, Californication and more! Also, awards season kicks off with the People’s Choice Awards and the Golden Globes.

Monday January 7th
Mr. D (8pm): (For us Canadians) SEASON PREMIERE! Gerry tries to prove he is great at his job and Robert becomes principal for a day.


WWE Monday Night Raw (8pm): The first RAW of 2013 features The Rock’s big return.
Castle (10pm): Castle and Beckett investigate a divorce attorney’s homicide and compile a long suspect list full of angry ex-spouses. Meanwhile, Alexis’ mom nurses her ill daughter back to health at the loft, where Beckett is also bunking while her place is fumigated.

Deception (10pm): SERIES PREMIERE! Joanna Padget Locasto, a San Francisco police officer, investigates the death of her estranged childhood best friend.

Tuesday January 8th
NCIS (8pm): Ziva’s father unexpectedly arrives to visit his daughter, but she questions his motives and wonders if he is on a secret mission for Mossad. Meanwhile, the team investigates the link between a dead journalist and a Navy petty officer.


Raising Hope (8pm): Jimmy’s plans to buy a car that’s safer for Hope are scuttled when he finds out that his parents ruined his credit years ago by maxing out credit cards in his name, so Burt and Virginia desperately try to make a deal with their bank representative, but they may have to hand over their new sports car to get it done.
Pretty Little Liars (8pm): Mona is released from the sanitarium and returns to school, but she faces an uphill battle in which she must prove to Hanna, Aria, Emily and Spencer that she has transformed and can be trusted.

Ben & Kate (8:30pm): Kate takes action after Maddie fails a test to get into the gifted program at her school. Elsewhere, Ben encounters a friend from college who stole one of his business ideas; and BJ’s mother (Jane Seymour) visits town.
NCIS: LA (9pm): A woman from Deeks’ past becomes the target of an international car-stealing operation that is linked to a global terrorist ring. Kensi works undercover at an auto-body shop to investigate the case.
The Lying Game (9pm): SEASON PREMIERE! In the second-season opener, Alec lands in jail on murder charges, but that doesn’t stop him from intimidating Emma. Meanwhile, Rebecca and Sutton’s plans for the Mercers are at odds with Emma and Laurel’s hopes for their family; and Mads meets a new guy who’s very mysterious.
Happy Endings (9pm): A young pop star pops into Alex’s store to buy a dress, and Penny grabs the opportunity to turn it into a public-relations bonanza, but she soon learns that not all news is good news. Meanwhile, Max is in the midst of an identity crisis, so Jane and Derrick squire him to Chicago’s themed gay establishments in hopes that he can find his niche; and Brad and Dave turn into a pair of Mr. Fix-Its and undertake a batch of home-repair projects.
New Girl (9pm): Things get complicated when Jess invites Nick and Angie to spend a weekend away with her and Sam. Meanwhile, Winston teaches Schmidt about race relations.

Go On (9pm): Ryan is invited to be part of a new TV show featuring his hero, Bob Costas (playing himself). Elsewhere, Fausta invites everyone except Anne to her niece’s birthday celebration, and Mr. K completes a major project, then seeks a new way to contribute.
Don’t Trust The B In Apt 23 (9:30pm): June tries to reform Chloe, after she makes a scandalous scene at a tenants’ meeting to welcome a new family into the building. Meanwhile, James attempts to sabotage June’s efforts.
The Mindy Project (9:30pm): Mindy’s brother visits from college and shocks his sister with his plans to drop out of school and become a rap star. Meanwhile, Danny and Jeremy try to schmooze their landlord into lowering their rent for the office.

The New Normal (9:30pm): Bryan and David discuss expanding their family. They also play matchmaker by trying to connect a friend with Bryan’s ex-boyfriend. Meanwhile, Shania tangles with mean girls and enlists Rocky and Jane for help.
Joe Schmo: The Full Bounty (10pm): SEASON PREMIERE! A man believes he’s signed on for a reality show, but his `competitors’ are actually improv actors portraying stereotypes
Private Practice (10pm): Amelia goes on a string of unsuccessful blind dates set up by her colleagues. Then she experiences an unexpected turn of events when she and James work together on a procedure and share dinner afterward.

Vegas (10pm): Sheriff Lamb is abducted by a vengeful kidnapper, while Katherine and Savino’s wife, Laura, enter into a partnership.
Parenthood (10pm): Drew and Amy receive major news, prompting Mark to share his concerns with Sarah; Adam and Kristina help Max cope with teenage life; Crosby tires of Renee creating conflicts with Jasmine; and Victor’s behavior leads Julia and Joel to question themselves.

Justified (10pm): SEASON PREMIERE! Raylan uncovers an unsettling family secret while tracking a dangerous fugitive in the fourth-season premiere.

Wednesday January 9th
People’s Choice Awards (9pm): Kaley Cuoco hosts the 39th annual gala that recognizes fan favorites in movies, TV and music, held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE. Christina Aguilera, Jason Aldean and Alicia Keys perform. Adam Levine leads in nominations with six, followed by Justin Bieber with five.
Law & Order: SVU (9pm): Two suspects are tried for the same murder in separate, simultaneous court proceedings, with the DA in each case rushing for a conviction.
Modern Family (9pm): Jay plans for the family to ring in the New Year at a Palm Springs hotel, but it’s not a very happy one when the accommodations leave something to be desired—though his luck just might change after he runs into actor Billy Dee Williams. Meanwhile, Haley and Alex have a memorable babysitting adventure.


Suburgatory (9:30pm): When Dalia gets a new car for her PSAT performance, Tessa—who is treated to ice cream for hers—becomes obsessed with discovering her score, and ultimately their wounded relationship can only be healed by a hip-hop dance-off. Meanwhile, Noah and Jill want Mr. Wolfe to tutor their baby after a devastating rejection from the best day-care centre in town.
Nashville (10pm): Lamar brings up some deeply buried family secrets when Rayna considers taking her daughters on tour. Meanwhile, Juliette and Sean get mixed reactions regarding their elopement; Deacon reunites with a former love; and Avery distances himself from Scarlett and the band.

Chicago Fire (10pm): Severide tells Chief Boden about his injury and makes some difficult choices about his future. Meanwhile, Casey has family issues; and Dawson goes on a rescue call and finds only one survivor—a young girl.
American Horror Story: Asylum (10pm): Dr. Thredson receives an unexpected visitor. Meanwhile, Monsignor Howard attempts to silence Sister Jude.

Thursday January 10th
30 Rock (8pm): Jack joins forces with rival Devin Banks in a power play to wrest control of Kabletown from his cunning teen nemesis, Kaylie Hooper. Elsewhere, Liz mulls over motherhood, and Tracy tries to direct Octavia Spencer (playing herself) in his newest film.
Grey’s Anatomy (9pm): Bailey’s wedding is in limbo while she focuses on saving Adele. Elsewhere, Cristina and Owen are indecisive about following through with their divorce; Arizona and Callie try to spice things up; and a group of injured bikers are brought to the hospital.


Person Of Interest (9pm): Carter helps Reese steer clear of Agent Donnelly; Reese meets old and new foes; and Det. Fusco is on his own to help the newest POI, supermodel Karolina Kurková.
The Office (9pm): When Pam unwittingly brings lice into the office, Meredith gets blamed and Dwight goes on a quest to annihilate the tiny insects. Elsewhere, Jim courts a potential associate in Philadelphia, and three staffers snoop into Darryl’s love life.

1600 Penn (9:30pm): Becca has surprising news that gets picked up by the media. Elsewhere, President Gilchrist holds a group-therapy session with his generals; and Emily gets tangled up in lies while trying to keep Marigold and Xander from learning Becca’s secret.
Scandal (10pm): An old pal assists Olivia and her team as they deal with Huck being detained under the Patriot Act. Meanwhile, Olivia comes to the rescue when Mellie is stuck in a compromising situation; and Olivia and Edison reach a crucial point in their relationship.

Elementary (10pm): Holmes faces a British criminal, known as M., who appears to have followed Sherlock to New York City. Meanwhile, Joan begins to have reservations about leaving Holmes and caring for a new client.

Friday January 11th
Fringe (9pm): Walter goes into the deprivation tank with the goal of learning more about the mysterious figure called Donald; Capt. Windmark sets out on a crucial mission.


CSI:NY (9pm): An off-duty police officer is killed during a robbery, and the CSIs use the art of interrogation to break down the suspects and get the truth.
Blue Bloods (10pm): Jamie experiences grief following an incident at work. Elsewhere, Mayor Poole takes the witness stand in a case Erin is prosecuting.

Sunday January 13th
Golden Globe Awards (8pm): The Hollywood Foreign Press Association stages its 70th annual gala, which recognizes achievement in 25 movie and TV categories. Highlights include a tribute to Jodie Foster, who receives the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
The Simpsons (8pm): Springfield Elementary must depend on Bartificial intelligence when it’s threatened with closure after doing poorly on standardized testing, and since Bart’s the only one who missed the exam, it’s up to him to raise the average grade to save the school. Meanwhile, Homer finds a parking meter in the dump and turns it into his own private moneymaker by placing it at various spots around town, where unsuspecting drivers pump coins into it.
Once Upon A Time (8pm): Mr. Gold wants to search for Bae, so he tests a new spell on a reluctant guinea pig. Meanwhile, Belle runs into Hook; Mary Margaret and David look for a larger home; and back in fairy-tale land, Belle teams up with Mulan to conquer a terrifying creature.


Revenge (9pm): Emily and Aiden stage their next scheme at a fund-raiser and wine auction. Meanwhile, Victoria carefully plans her next move; and the Porters try to come to grips with what the future holds for them.

The Good Wife (9pm): Attorney Elsbeth Tascioni is arrested, so Alicia helps out with a case she was working on. Meanwhile, Peter gets conflicting advice from Eli and Jordan.
Shameless (9pm): SEASON PREMIERE! In the Season 3 premiere, Fiona adapts to living with Jimmy; Frank awakens in a strange place; and Lip gets sentenced to community service. Meanwhile, Jody and Sheila are losing sleep over Baby Hymie’s nocturnal restlessness.

Family Guy (9pm): Brian is riding high after his play proves to be a big hit in town, but he is soon trumped as a writer when Stewie pens a piece that winds up on Broadway, leading to problems between the two authors.
Girls (9pm): SEASON PREMIERE! In the Season 2 premiere, Hannah throws a party with her new roommate, Elijah, and is ready to move on in her romantic life despite still tending to a needy Adam and his broken leg. Meanwhile, Shoshanna does her best to avoid Ray; Marnie gets bad news from her boss; and Jessa returns from her honeymoon with Thomas-John.

Enlightened (9:30pm): SEASON PREMIERE! Fearing her job is about to be eliminated, Amy contacts an investigative reporter in the Season 2 premiere when she uses Tyler’s IT password to compile a trove of incriminating e-mails from Abaddonn executives that could bring the company down.
Happy Endings (10pm): Alex recruits the gang to play in a citywide kickball tournament for a team that she sponsors, but then learns they’ll have to go toe-to-toe with Jane, who has stepped up to play with a more successful squad. (an unaired episode from Season 2)
Don’t Trust The B In Apt 23 (10pm): June is drugged by Chloe and when she comes to she can’t remember anything that happened the previous day. Meanwhile, James thinks that he may have impregnated June’s friend on her wedding day.
The Mentalist (10pm): The team investigate a geologist’s homicide, which Lisbon believes is linked to Tommy Volker and therefore can lead to his downfall.

House Of Lies (10pm): SEASON PREMIERE! In the Season 2 premiere, the aftermath of the sexual-harassment scandal leaves Marty and his Pod adjusting to a new corporate culture at Galweather Stearn, where the interim CEO entrusts consummate closer Marty with sealing a big deal. Later, a boozy night on the town leaves Jeannie reeling, while Marty’s relationship with Roscoe is in need of repair.
Californication (10:30pm): SEASON PREMIERE! In the Season 6 premiere, still reeling from the murder attempt on his life, Hank accompanies Charlie to a meeting with a rock star who wants to mount a Broadway musical based on Hank’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”
