Katy Perry And Savages Take On The Amazing Spider-Man – Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions, Weekend Of July 6th, 2012

This weekend, there’s no question that the lastest cinematic adventure of everybody’s favourite wallcrawler is going to dominate the box office. The big question is, how much money will The Amazing Spider-Man bring in during its first weekend in release. Find out what our prediction is after the jump.
We’ve already talked quite a bit about The Amazing Spider-Man at Biff Bam Pop (you can check out our review here), but in case you haven’t been following along, this film reboots the character rather than continue on the world Sam Raimi created in his trilogy. There has been lots of talk about whether a reboot is too soon, since the franchise is only 10 years old and then last film was just five years ago, but judging by the movies’ two day opening gross ($59 million) there is still an appetite for the character, even with a new cast and director. Look for a strong opening weekend with a gross of $65 million.

Also new this weekend is Oliver Stones’ Savages, featuring a stellar cast that includes Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch, Salma Hayek and others. Good thing for Kitsch is that this is an ensemble cast, so if the movie bombs like John Carter and Battleship did, he won’t be left holding all the blame. The film, based on the novel by Don Winslow, has some decent buzz going for it, is arguably the most interesting thing Oliver Stone has done in a long time. It certainly has a cast that could bring in a younger audience. Look for a fifth place opening for Savages and a gross of $14 million.

Katy Perry is also looking for your money this weekend with the release of her 3D concert film, Part of Me. I don’t think this will prove to be particularly popular, certainly not the way Justin Bieber’s own concert film was. Look for a debut outside the top five with $8 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Ted should nab the number two spot with $30 million, thanks to the must-see word of mouth that is spreading around it. Magic Mike will drop a spot to third place with $25 million, while Brave will take the fourth spot with $20 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) The Amazing Spider-Man – $65 million
2) Ted – $30 million
3) Magic Mike – $25 million
4) Brave – $20 million
5) Savages – $14 million

Be sure to check back on Saturday to see how the weekend turns out!
