It’s been heavy on the Batman here at Biff Bam Pop! HQ over the last week. You may have seen my post for National Video Game Day on September 12, which included a look at building Ben Affleck’s Batmobile from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is also part of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
As fate would have it, today, September 19, just happens to be Batman Day, celebrated around the world! Our friends at LEGO sent over another timely build: Robert Pattinson’s Batmobile from the Matt Reeves film, The Batman. I was genuinely curious as to what the experience would be like building two similar vehicles back to back. Would I experience similar frustrations when I was putting together the wheels for Affleck’s Batmobile? Would one take longer than the other? What music would I have going while I got to work?
Last questions first – I wound up listening to two bands I’ve really been enjoying this year. Elder, who comes to Toronto on September 30, and King Buffalo, who returns to the city later in the fall. Their music were an excellent soundtrack while I built the Patmobile. Wait, has anyone called it that yet? Should I try for a trademark?
I digress.
Building this new Batmobile was a lot of fun, and while figuring out the wings on the side of the car was a bit of a challenge, overall this was definitely less frustrating than last week’s build. Like the film itself, Pattinson’s Batmobile is sleeker than Affleck’s, which is significantly larger, perhaps even mythic, just like the Zack Snyder film it was featured in.
Putting this Batmobile was a good way to spend a few hours of Batman Day, and I don’t think I’m done yet. A Humble Bundle just went up, compiling a whole mess of Batman comic books for a ridiculous price, and I’ve also got the two Batman ’66 animated films in my iTunes that are begging to be watched.
However you spend your Batman Day, I hope you still remember why we fall.
