What’s Going On: Neon Moons, TyriqueOrDie, Tommy Lee, Mike D, Lola Young

It’s been cold, grey, and damp in Toronto. This weather’s got me feeling gloomy, but I’ve still got a fresh stack of tracks cutting across country, pop, rock, and everything in between. From stars on the rise to fresh releases from industry vets like Mike D and Tommy Lee, it’s another solid week of What’s Going On.

Neon Moons – Hudson Valley country crew Neon Moons are gearing up for the release of their debut album, A Day Late and a Dollar Short, on July 17. The collection is led by the title track that deserves a permanent spot on your summer playlist. Blending jam-band looseness and classic barroom country storytelling, the band sounds like a forgotten boozy ‘90s country gem, which makes them stand out in 2026. The band feels refreshingly authentic in a landscape still dominated by bro country.

TyriqueOrDie – Toronto underground dance sensation TyriqueOrDie is gonna make you sweat with “Chanel,” a steamy, late-night anthem built for dance floors and bad decisions. Pulling from the energy of the city’s rave scene that he helped shape through Toronto Hardcore, the track fuses his razor-sharp rap delivery with hypnotic club production for a sound that feels both gritty and euphoric. Hedonistic and irresistible, you can’t stand still while listening to “Chanel.”

Tommy Lee – Eternal bad boy Tommy Lee returns with Tommyland Rides Again, a brand new reworking of his 2005 solo album. Everything is bigger for 2026! Louder guitars, sharper edges, even more shocking imagery, and a stunning Dolby Atmos overhaul. The Mötley Crüe legend also shared a new bonus track, “Stupid World,” featuring Chad Tepper, adding fresh punk energy to the mix. Not just a nostalgic trip or brazen cash grab, Tommyland Rides Again proves Tommy Lee can still shake shit up.

Mike D – So what’cha want? How about new music from one of the Beastie Boys? Mike D is stepping out with his unexpected and surprising solo era. His latest solo release, “What We Got,” is a fuzzed-out, groove-heavy track that trades Beastie Boys nostalgia for something more modern and experimental. Built around distorted guitars and moody rhythms, the single expands on the left-field energy of his first solo effort, “Switch Up,” while proving Mike D is just as vital as ever. Fun fact: Mike D has been working closely with his sons, Davis and Skyler, on this comeback material, making it a family affair.

Lola Young – She might be messy, but Lola Young is back with “From Down Here,” a striking new single co-created with James Blake that finds her stepping back into the spotlight after a much-needed retreat for her own peace of mind. Arriving after her Grammy-winning hit “Messy” achieved cultural ubiquity, “From Down Here” signals the start of a more expansive, unguarded era. The track simmers with the tension between joy and uneasiness, with lyrics that feel like they were taken right from the singer’s diary.
