Gilbert Speaks on ‘Dream Eater:’ A Paranormal Mystery Review

A frantic phone call to 911 opens this paranormal mystery of what’s haunting Alex and Mallory on their weekend trip.

Dream Eater

Dream Eater is co-written and co-directed by Jay Drakulic, Mallory Drumm, and Alex Lee Willams. Produced by Eli Roth through The Horror Section, the film follows a couple, Alex (Alex Lee Williams) and Mallory (Mallory Drumm), as they take some quiet time to heal after Alex is seriously injured during one of his bizarre sleepwalking episodes. Alex’s therapist (Kelly Williams) suggests that Mallory film bouts of parasomnia.

Parasomnia is a sleep disorder that includes sleepwalking, sleep talking, and night terrors. As Alex’s behaviour becomes more frightening and dangerous for both him and Mallory, she learns that the cause of this behaviour might have something to do with his parents’ connection to a cult. The further Mallory digs into Alex’s past…the scarier this film gets.

Conclusion

Dream Eater plays out as found footage, which doesn’t take away from the unexpected scares…but plays havoc with my motion sickness. The acting is perfect in its presentation, and I found myself truly concerned about the welfare of both characters. My only negative is that I wish they had spent more time on the cult’s influence on Alex’s parents and, eventually, on Alex.

Dream Eater is out for release on VOD, Amazon and Fandango at Home. There are enough jump scares to keep horror fans happy.
