Video game figures are having their moment. I’ve written about Hasbro’s foray into the Gamerverse not too long ago. This week, I was able to get my hands on the highly sought-after SDCC Exclusive Savage Land Gamerverse 3-Pack, and if that wasn’t enough, SH Figuarts dropped the details for their next entry into the Gamerverse as well. Let’s get our pockets full of quarters and button mash our way through this week’s Figure Friday!

SH Figuarts Spider-Man (Gamerverse)
My Figure Friday partner E.A. Henson covered the SH Figuarts Gamerverse Cyclops preorder a few weeks back, now I get to spotlight their very impressive Spider-Man follow-up.
Here’s what you get in the box with Web Head:
– 4 pairs of interchangeable hands
– Interchangeable head part
– Swing spider web
– Defensive spider web
– Adapter parts for Spider-Sense effect parts
– Spider sense effect parts
– Special move effect card

The eyes are the window to the soul, and Spider-Man’s eyes are no different. Every artist who tackles Spidey has “their” version, and the eyes are their defining feature. Any fan with a trained eye can spot the difference between a Steve Ditko, John Romita Sr or Todd McFarlane from the eyes alone. The Capcom Spider-Man that this Gamerverse figure is inspired by is more akin to McFarlane’s “big eye” Spider-Man. It’s not normally my jam, but god damn if this isn’t the nicest looking Spidey I’ve seen in a while.

The sculpted web lines can be a drawback to some, but I think they work perfectly here. It gives a nice crisp look that complements the vibrant red and blue colour palette. Those big white eyes really pop and make this one Spidey figure guaranteed to stand out on a crowded shelf. If that weren’t enough, you get some unique accessories as well. While the “Ultimate Web Throw” Special Move Effect Card isn’t as effective as the Optic Blast that’s packed in with Cyclops, the Web Barrier looks pretty nice, and I’m always a sucker for a good Spidey Sense effect.

Spider-Man’s fighting style in Marvel vs Capcom has him hitting some pretty dynamic poses, and it looks like Figuarts is pulling out all the stops with double-jointed, pinless arms and legs, butterfly joints in the shoulder and the ever-popular and often overlooked toe articulation. You shouldn’t have much trouble recreating those poses once Spidey ships next year.

SDCC Exclusive Marvel Legends Savage Land Gamerverse 3-Pack
This has been a hard set to come by, quickly selling out whenever it was listed on Hasbro Pulse after the convention. Is it worth the hype? I’d say: It depends.

I never built the Sauron Build-A-Figure, so that made my decision a lot easier. With his wings fully extended, he’s pretty impressive. The design of the wings could be problematic, but he’s able to pose pretty well without much limitation. The hypnosis effect that attaches to his eyes is his only accessory, but it’s a good one.

Shanna the She-Devil is a pretty cool figure. I’m not a huge Shanna fan, so I don’t have strong feelings as to whether or not she’s wearing shoes. It’s not a deal breaker for me, but I know what it’s like to have OCD for characters I’m passionate about. I dig the figure so much, I’m scrambling to find Ka-Zar and Zabu to go along with her.

And then there’s Rogue… this is essentially the same figure as Shanna with a different shirt and a Rogue head slapped on. Unfortunately, there’s something about the look on her face that’s not doing it for me. She’s somewhere between exhausted, irritated or both. I love the character. I’m sure a scantily clad version of Rogue is something a lot of fans want. I’m here to tell you right now that if I could swap her for a Zabu BAF, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
So is this Savage Land 3-Pack worth the hype? I’d say if you have Ka-Zar and Zabu, this is a must-have. Even more so if you still need a Sauron figure. If you’re a fan of Rogue and just want her, try to get a look at her face in person before you buy. That face print might not be what you’re looking for. If it is, hit me up if you’ve got an extra Zabu you’re looking to move!
