I’ve been singing the praises of the Jada Street Fighter and Mega Man figures since the beginning. Call me crazy, but I think the Marvel Legends team took notice as well because we’re being treated to an entire wave of Marvel figures that would look right at home fighting Jada’s Capcom figures. Let’s take a look at the latest GamerVerse wave that’s going up for preorder in the coming weeks.

Wolverine vs Silver Samurai
I don’t need another tiger stripe Wolverine.
I don’t need another tiger stripe Wolverine.
I don’t need another tiger stripe Wolverine.
DAMMIT! I’m going to have to start the Maximum Wolverine article off the same way when we inevitably get one, aren’t I?
Anyways, here we are yet again. All the minor grievances have been addressed and we have what appears to be a “perfect” Wolverine, though slightly stylized towards Marvel vs Capcom. He can hit some nice crouch positions with increased neck articulation. They’ve also thrown in a nice crisscross slash effect which can be used for separate solo slashes as well. We’re toe articulation away from perfection.
Silver Samurai gets a Samurai Star energy effect and some lightning for his sword. I’m glad I’ve held off on buying Silver Samurai to this point as I can now somewhat rationalize a reason to purchase yet another tiger stripe Wolverine.

Psylocke vs Thanos
We’ve been overdue for a Jim Lee-inspired Psylocke for quite a while. While this might not be the traditional colour of her outfit, it’s a minor trade-off for the update and some excellent effect pieces. That being said, if you aren’t interested in paying for Thanos, an updated Psylocke should pave the way for a retro carded release at some point in the near future.
As for Thanos, it feels too similar to previous versions for me to get excited. He has more of a pronounced helmet brow, which falls in line with the game design, but outside of that and a game-inspired colour palette, there’s nothing new that stands out.

Captain America vs Venom
This is a good, solid Cap. He’s a bit of a beefier build than previous releases, with butterfly joints and some thumbs-up hands. He also has a blast effect that covers the full shield, which is a welcome new addition to the effect arsenal for figure photography.
Venom looks great in blue, but I think he’ll have to live with my Capcom figures, or he’ll mess up the vibe of my all-black symbiote shelf. The half-masked Eddie Brock head is reused from a previous release, but it’s a nice addition to round out the offering.

War Machine vs Omega Red
I’ve been collecting Legends for a long time, so it’s surprising that I’ve never had either of these characters in my collection to this point. Looks like patience has paid off because these both look really nice. Omega Red has an excellent face sculpt and some fun bendy tentacles.
War Machine has a nicely shaded blue-silver paint app. It would be the perfect War Machine armour to complement Iron Man’s Stealth armour. I would have liked to have seen them throw in the Plasma Cannon that was previously released with a retro Iron Man figure, but instead we get a smaller cannon attachment with blast effect and a missile.

Gargantos
This is not Shuma-Gorath for legal reasons, but as long as it looks like an eyeball with tentacles, we’ll all just pretend this is Gargantos. I think this thing looks fun. It looks like it articulates well, and the eyeball can be moved around and closed to various degrees. Based on previous experience, I also think it looks like something I’ll find at the discount stores in a year. I look forward to owning this one, but patience is a virtue.

Juggernaut
Now this is impressive. The previous Juggies were beefy, but this boy is thicc. Mega Deluxe figure, indeed. They released the GamerVerse Venom on the larger body, and it looked a bit like the 12-inch Titan figures to me because it was leaner. If we’re going BIG with characters like Juggernaut, Venom, Hulk or Man-Thing, let’s go crazy big like THIS. I love it. They took the Diamond Select Juggernaut and made him look small. No easy feat. No notes on this one.

Jada Toys Street Fighter II news
Coincidentally, the Capcom side of the MvC equation, Jada Toys, also announced the preorder for their latest Street Fighter II figure this week, Vega. You can grab him at online retailers starting today. They also teased something very cool looking for San Diego Comic Con, these flame-engulfed figures! Once I hear more details on these, I’ll pass them along, but it appears the world-building for the Street Fighters continues!
