What’s Going On: The Midnight, Sabrina Carpenter, Rohin, Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers, Jillian Jacqueline, Fridayy

Summer may have ghosted us faster than a bad Tinder date, but don’t pack away your good vibes just yet. September is here, and What’s Going On has a fresh batch of bangers ready to keep your playlists hot. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow these artists.

The Midnight – Synth-pop duo The Midnight (Tyler Lyle & Tim McEwan, okay?) gear up for their ambitious new album Syndicate, due out October 3rd via Ultra Records. The album’s cinematic closing track, “Summer’s Ending Soon,” serves as the pair’s latest single. Opening with a crack of lightning before blooming into widescreen nostalgia, the song feels like the credits to a John Hughes coming-of-age film. With shimmering synths and emotive melodies, it captures the album’s themes of memory, impermanence, and connection, closing summer on a note of bittersweet beauty. The perfect late summer track.

Sabrina Carpenter – Global pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter is back with her highly anticipated seventh album, Man’s Best Friend. Out now via Island Records / Universal Music Canada, the album is a 12-track pop masterclass in witty lyricism and irresistible hooks. Co-written and co-produced with Amy Allen, Jack Antonoff, and John Ryan, the album includes her platinum chart-topping hit “Manchild” and drops alongside her latest single “Tears”, whose campy video stars Colman Domingo in drag. Sabrina proves she’s still pop’s sharpest storyteller and one of the most fearless stars on the scene today.

Rohin – Rising Canadian alt-rock newcomer Rohin returns with his sophomore EP, As The Light Fades (out now via Universal Music Canada), a five-track collection exploring self-discovery amid a world in flux. Showcasing Rohin’s striking vocals and raw musicality, the project navigates love, loss, societal ills and the messy transition into adulthood. From the grunge-tinged nostalgia of “Chinatown in the Rain” to the emotional vulnerability of “Trueblue” and “Rosa,” Rohin proves to be one of Canada’s most compelling emerging voices. There’s still great alternative music coming out of Canada.

Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers – Australian indie-rockers Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers have a new album on the way. Their second album GLORY is set to drop on November 7 via Mom + Pop / Community Music. Featuring the blistering rage-fueled audio middle finger “MOTHER”, the album channels confidence, disgust, and power through swaggering, widescreen indie-rock. Produced by GRAMMY-winner Catherine Marks, GLORY showcases a band fully owning their sound, from the twangy fury of latest single “MOTHER” to the anthemic “BALCONY” and “UNSCARRED.” With their boldest, most unapologetic work yet, Teen Jesus cement themselves as one of alt-rock’s fiercest voices.

Jillian Jacqueline – Singer-songwriter Jillian Jacqueline returns with “Cult Classic,” the first single from her upcoming album MotherDaughterSisterWife (Oct 17 via Virgin Music Group). The track, infused with cool nostalgia and timeless romance, reflects Jacqueline’s fascination with love stories while inviting listeners to dance through life’s defining moments. We love that! Written during a period of deep personal reflection sparked by motherhood, the album promises her most honest and purposeful work yet, blending intimate storytelling with cinematic melodies that feel both classic and refreshingly new. Get into it!

Fridayy – Grammy-nominated R&B artist Fridayy dropped his moody new single “Below Zero,” just ahead of the European leg of his Some Days I’m Good, Some Days I’m Not world tour. Blending soul-baring lyrics with atmospheric production, the track captures emotional numbness and the chill of giving too much of yourself away. Following two 2025 BET Award nominations and a breakthrough year, Fridayy continues to demonstrate why he’s one of modern R&B’s most vulnerable and captivating voices. European audiences are about to fall in love with Fridayy.
