Gilbert Speaks on Vivieno Caldinelli’s ‘Scared Shitless’

When Andy asked me to review this film, I laughed out loud at the title. Don’t let the title scare you away. Who needs Ghostbusters when you have plumbers!

Scared Shitless

Scared Shitless is a self-funded independent gem that is set to make its Toronto debut at Blood in the Snow Film Festival on November 23rd.  I know exactly what you are expecting with the title…toilet jokes…bathroom humour…human waste, but what you get instead is a well-done horror comedy that is laugh-out-loud fun to watch. Scared Shitless is directed by Vivieno Caldinelli and stars Steven Ogg (Simon from The Walking Dead), Daniel Doheny, Chelsea Clark, Mark McKinney, Julian Richings, Marcia Bennet, and Brynn Godenir.

The film, which is the first feature for writer/producer Brandon Cohen and producer Lewis Spring, begins when a call comes in from an apartment building for a plumber. Don (Steven Ogg) is a plumber’s plumber, meaning that he takes pride in his profession by finding the source of the problem and doing the job right. His son, Sonny (Daniel Doheny) is dealing with extreme depression and has become a shut-in and Pepto-Bismol chugging germaphobe due to his mother dying from a rare stomach bug. Don finally talks his son into accompanying him on the call to the apartment building…but only if Don takes a case of Pepto-Bismol with him. What Don and the new manager, Patricia (Chelsea Clark), of the apartment building are not aware of is that a scientist (Mark McKinney) has brought one of his genetically bio-engineered creations home with him.

Conclusion

Even though Scared Shitless might appear campy…the cast, writing, and special effects as the creature makes its way into unsuspecting tenants’ toilets, has enough frights and humorous comments to make it a winner.

With Steven Ogg as the lead character, Scared Shitless is a top-class, tongue-in-cheek horror film that we have all been waiting for.
