31 Days of Horror Presents The Devil Made Them Do It: Figure Friday – E.A. Henson Gives Up the Ghost…Figures

It’s my first Figure Friday of Spooky Season and I’m glad that I was given a writing assignment for this week because otherwise I’d have 900 words on my first colonoscopy that took place last week. Sadly (?) it wasn’t as hilarious as I hoped it would be and the doctor was kind of an asshole. Please clap.

“The Devil made them do it…” what a banger of a topic for Biff Bam Pop’s! 31 Days of Horror this year. My Figure Friday co-writer Josh really blew the doors of the joint with his exhaustive list of Devil toys last week to the point where you’d be within your rights to think that there was nothing left for ME to write about. Luckily, Ol’ Scratch has the church beat when it comes to branding and there’s still plenty of cool toys!

Way back in 2015 my cousin had texted to ask me if I wanted to go and see some “Swedish Metal band” and I had nothing else on my agenda that Friday night so I agreed to accompany him. I hadn’t heard of the band and went in with only a vague understanding of what I was getting myself into at the Majestic Theater in Detroit.

The small-ish venue had a crowd that circled around the building, the theater was packed, and the band…was Ghost.

I’ll get to the toys momentarily but that night I was blown away by the band. The pageantry, the theatricality, the pure rock & roll fun of the show was like nothing I had experienced to date. Needless to say, I walked away from the show an instant fan.

If there’s one thing other than writing playfully satanic songs that Ghost excels at, it’s merchandising. It really is all about the devil you know, I’ve never been a KISS fan and I’ve decried their crass commercialism in the past while I’ve enthusiastically embraced Ghost for pulling the same trick. I’d say “so sue me” but Gene Simmons probably would.

On to the toys!

Ghost ULTIMATES! Papa Emeritus IV

Super7 is at it again with the ULTIMATES! line having previously done one for the last iteration of Ghost’s frontman Papa Emeritus III.

Papa Emeritus IV was the fourth leader of the metal band Ghost and is arguably their most confident and successful. Super7’s latest Ghost ULTIMATES! figure depicts Papa Emeritus IV from the Impera album era, which includes his most elaborate wardrobe yet. Loaded with accessories, this 7” scale, highly articulated ULTIMATES! figure features intricate sculpt and premium paint detailing and comes with an alternate mitre head, a plethora of interchangeable hands, a highly-detailed soft goods robe, and more. Papa Emeritus IV’s achievements are the greatest the band has seen to date- let your greatest achievement be adding this made-to-order Ghost Papa Emeritus IV ULTIMATES! figure to your collection!

I’m not going to hard sell you on this figure. They use the word “plethora” in the above description and if that doesn’t do it for you then your heart must be made of stone.

Ghost Papa Emeritus II 1/6 Scale Figure

Jumping a few albums back and almost doubling in size is the Papa Emeritus II 12-inch figure from Trick or Treat Studios for the discerning Ghost fan who also happens to be well-to-do. This premium format figure will set you back $150 American dollars and appear to be worth every penny.

Ghost Papa Emeritus Nihil (Pro-Memoria Ver.) SDCC 2021 Exclusive Figure

Rounding things out for the Ghost fan on a budget is the 3.75-inch ReAction Figure from Super7 of Papa Emeritus Nihil, the ghoul that kicked things off way back in 1969. If you’re just starting to collect Ghost stuff this is an excellent starting point AND he comes with his own little saxophone.
