What’s Going On: The Weeknd, Florence + The Machine, MAN ON MAN, Milky Chance, Track 45

Your favorite weekly new music roundup is back and we’ve got the latest from Florence + The Machine, MAN ON MAN, Milky Chance, and Track 45. Plus, a hot collaboration from The Weeknd and Future. It’s a jam-packed edition of What’s Going On. As always, if you dig what you hear, be sure to stream and follow the artists.

The Weeknd – Global pop superstar The Weeknd is out now with his new single “Double Fantasy” featuring Future. The Mike Dean and Metro Boomin produced “Double Fantasy” also serves as the first original song to be released from The Weeknd’s forthcoming HBO Original series The Idol, set to premiere on June 4th at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The banger’s hazy yet lascivious vibe should fit perfectly on the Sam Levinson (HBO’s Euphoria) co-created series. If Euphoria and the few teasers we’ve gotten of The Idol are anything to go by, the show is going to be sexy, dark and over-the-top. And you know the show’s official soundtrack will be, too.

Florence + The Machine – After teasing its existence, Florence + The Machine finally released new single “Mermaids.” Written and produced by Florence and Dave Bayley, the track dives into the lore of the titular mythical creatures and also serves as a cautionary tale. Along with the new song, there’s more good news for Florence + The Machine fans. Florence’s 2022 album Dance Fever has gotten the deluxe treatment. In addition to “Mermaids,” there are three spoken word renditions of the album tracks “King”, “My Love” and “Cassandra” that round out Dance Fever – The Complete Edition.

MAN ON MAN – Queer rockers MAN ON MAN have announced their much anticipated sophomore album Provincetown, due out on June 16th via Polyvinyl Record Co. The duo consisting of Joey Holman and Imperial Teen and Faith No More co-founder Roddy Bottum started their romantic and musical partnership during the pandemic, getting rave reviews in 2021 with their self-titled debut album. The first taste of what’s to come from Provincetown is the lead single “Showgirls.” With its bold pop-punk sound, witty lyrics, and fierce guitar work, “Showgirls” is an instant earworm.

Milky Chance – German pop duo Milky Chance are hitting the road and they just might be coming through your town! The extensive North American tour kicks off on May 28th in Quebec City before wrapping up on September 1st in Aspen, Colorado. If that isn’t enough, the duo has also released their new single “Golden.” The latest of what listeners can expect from their upcoming album Living In A Haze, “Golden” tackles self-discovery and love in a gorgeous alt-pop style. Explaining how “Golden” came to be, Milky Chance states: “We remember the day we wrote this song because it was an especially golden day in Berlin – it made us positively nostalgic and set the tone for the whole session. ‘Golden’ is an homage to our youth, the golden time in life when a lot of things happen for the first time. It’s great to think back and to realize how naive and free we were, in the best way.”

Track 45 – Spunky country trio Track 45 have got the cure to broken heart blues with their new single “Last Man In Tennessee.” Equal parts heartfelt and hilarious, the song acts as an ode to men that can help heal heartbreak: Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Johnny Cash, etc. You get their drift! On what “Last Man In Tennessee” is all about, Track 45 states: “This song is a comeback to that guy who thinks you’ll never get over him – your world doesn’t revolve around him anymore, and it’s better that way! It’s easy to feel depressed after a relationship ends… that you’ll never find the right one, but this song is a fun, lighthearted anthem to remind yourself ‘I’m so over him’ and there are plenty of fish in the sea.” If you’re hungry for more Track 45, you can catch them singing the US National Anthem on April 29th ahead of the Nashville SC vs. Atlanta United FC soccer game.
