Watch as writer Donny Cates talks about the inspirations behind Venom #1 in this behind the scenes video.
“Something is happening to the symbiote that terrifies Eddie Brock… it is starting to operate without his consent.” In the aftermath of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s collapse, an evil has been awakened beneath the streets of New York, bringing with it a threat that could have drastic consequences for the symbiote and Eddie Brock.
Editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski adds that Cates and Stegman are “telling the Venom story for our generation.” This latest Venom story is an adventure that’s been “1,000 years in the making,” a statement that is supported by Cates’ reference to Beowulf, the 11th century English epic poem.
Multiversity Comics has called the first issue of Venom “a rich, haunting story that works on a variety of levels.” You can decide for yourself by checking out the issue, which is on sale now. If you want more Venom, stay tuned. Venom #2 hits comic stores on June 13.
