The Week In Horror: ‘Halloween,’ ‘Predator,’ Stephen King & Joe Hill + More

Hi. You look pretty today, dear readers. Want some horror news? Here ya go.

Before we get started on anything, let’s get something straight right now: additional photography/reshoots on the new Halloween is not news! Almost every film made has some reshoots. It has nothing to do with the movie sucking, or test audiences hating it, etc. Internet, do not freak out and speculate. This is normal.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Netflix will adapt Stephen King and Joe Hill’s novella In the Tall Grass. It will be directed by Vincenzo Natali, who made the excellent body horror thriller Splice. James Marsden (X-Men) is in negotiations to star.

Scout Taylor-Compton, who played Laurie Strode in the two Rob Zombie Halloween films, returns in a new horror film from IFC Midnight called Feral. The film centers on a group of students camping in the woods who fall prey to a deadly virus that turns the infected into zombie-like cannibals. While the premise doesn’t sound all that original, the trailer does a much better job of selling the film, which looks like a tense and scary thrill ride.

The first teaser trailer for the Shane Black/Fred Dekker The Predator just dropped and I will not be adding to the chorus of folks whining that a 90-second teaser of a film still in post production didn’t reach through the screen and massage my balls. The “meh” comment from The Nerdist got me particularly annoyed, when the fact is, the teaser doesn’t suck and, hold on a second, it’s just a teaser! I’m 100% on board for The Predator.

In addition to canceling one of the best sitcoms on television, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Fox has axed both The Exorcist and Lucifer. No word yet on the fate of Gotham. (As of this posting, NBC has picked up Brooklyn Nine Nine.)

If you want to recast Marilyn Chambers in a film you’ve really got to get a “super girl,” eh? Anybody? I’m not sorry. For their remake of the David Cronenberg classic, Rabid, the Soska Sisters have cast Smallville’s Laura Vandervoort, who wound up being a series highlight playing Clark’s cousin Super Girl. (She also appears on Supergirl as Indigo.) Vandervoort will be stepping into the lead role for this highly anticipated remake, which originally starred Chambers in her sole non-porn role.
