Bradley Cooper’s Burnt flames out at the box office

The early weekend estimates are out and, by all indications, it was a horrible outing for the new releases. Here’s what went down:

The Martian grabbed the number one spot again this weekend, with and estimated $10.7 million. The movie is now sitting at $182 million in North America and should have no problems hitting that magic $200 million. Somewhere a studio exec is defnitely thinking about how they can turn this film into a franchise. The Martian 2: Electric Boogaloo? Maybe not.

As for the rest of the top five, Goosebumps  settled into second place with $9.2 million, bringing its three week total to a respectable $56 million. Bridge of Spies was in third place with $7.6 million, while Hotel Transylvania 2 landed in fourth place with an estimated $5.6 million. That film is already at $155 million, outgraossing the original by more than $15 million.

Finally, the Bradley Cooper Oscar-baiting Burnt had a horrible showing, debuting in fifth place with an anemic $4.7 million. This one is a complete let down for everyone involved. Though its showing isn’t as terrible as Sandra Bullock’s Our Brand Is Crisis, which landed in eighth place with just $2.8 million.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) The Martian – $11.5 million
2) Goosebumps – $9 million
3) Burnt – $8.5 million
4) Bridge of Spies – $7.5 million
5) Hotel Transylvania 2 – $5 million

And here’s how the weekend is estimated to turn out:

1) The Martian – $10.7 million
2) Goosebumps – $9.2 million
3) Bridge of Spies – $7.6 million
4) Hotel Transylvania 2 – $5.6 million
5) Burnt – $4.7 million

Next weekend sees the release of Spectre and The Peanuts Movie. Be sure to check back on Friday to see our predictions!
