It’s going to be a relatively quiet weekend at the box office, at least as far as blockbusters go. Two new movies enter the summer fray but neither are tentpole flicks driven by special effects. On that note, here are our predictions:
Think Like A Man Too is the sequel to the Kevin Hart 2012 original, which grossed $32 million during its opening weekend. Hart’s box office clout has risen over the last two years, so this follow-up should prove to do well. Look for a first place opening with $45 million.
Also opening this weekend is Jersey Boys, the Clint Eastwood-directed film adaptation of the Tony-Award winning musical about the Four Seasons. This just seems like the complete wrong film to be releasing for the summer, even as counter-programming. Look for a fourth place finish with $14 million.
As for the rest of the top five, 22 Jump Street will drop to second place with $30 million. How To Train Your Dragon 2 will place third with $22 million, while Maleficent will close things out in fifth with $11 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Think Like A Man Too – $45 million
2) 22 Jump Street – $30 million
3) How To Train Your Dragon 2 – $22 million
4) Jersey Boys – $14 million
5) Maleficent – $11 million
Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
