The Purge Takes the Top – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

boxoffA huge weekend at the box office, with numbers that nobody could have predicted. Here`s what went down:

In an amazing showing, The Purge was the number one film this weekend, bringing in a simply stellar $36.4 million. The film was low budget and snuck up on everyone, but there was some signs that The Purge would resonate, with 8 million views for the trailer on YouTube. The Purge should enjoy its weekend, since next week sees the release of Man Of Steel.

The Internship, reteaming Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, debut in fourth place with $18 million, a definite letdown for all involved.

As for the rest of the weekend, Fast & Furious 6 dropped to second place with $19.8 million. Now You See Me was behind it in third place with $19,5 million, while Epic closed things out in fifth place with $12 million.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) Fast & Furious 6 – $25 million
2) The Purge – $18 million
3) Now You See Me – $17.5 million
4) The Internship – $15 million
5) After Earth – $10 million

  1. I’m shocked…Purge must have gotten a huge boost by the 18-25 demo; horror movies aren’t usually big players in the summer…
